What Happens to the Photos I Don't Choose?

If you've ever booked a photographer and wondered 'Wait, how many photos did they actually take? Where did the rest go?' you're not alone.

It's one of the most common unspoken questions clients have, and I want to answer it honestly and openly.

Because here's the thing: I'm not hiding anything from you. Every decision I make from how I fire the shutter to what I deliver in your gallery is made with one goal in mind: giving you the most beautiful, meaningful collection of images possible.

So let me take you behind the scenes.

First, I Overshoot. On Purpose.

I am an over shooter and I am proud of it.

During your session, I go wild with the shutter button. Why? Because I would rather have 800 frames to work with than miss the one perfect moment because I was being too precious about pressing the button.

A laugh that lasted half a second. A glance between two people that said everything. The moment a newborn curled their tiny fingers just so.

You simply cannot re-create those moments. So I capture everything and then I edit with intention.

It's always easier to delete a photo than to wish you'd taken one.

So What Is Culling, and Why Does It Matter?

Culling is the process of going through every single image from your session and selecting only the best ones to edit and deliver. It's one of the most important (and most invisible) parts of my job and it takes skill.

A photo gets cut for specific reasons. Maybe someone blinked. Maybe the expression wasn't quite there. Maybe there's motion blur, an exposure issue, or it's simply too similar to a stronger shot right next to it.

Culling removes the duplicates, the technically imperfect, and anything that just doesn't do you justice.

Think of it this way: culling is not me withholding photos from you. It's me protecting you from photos that don't represent you at your best.

I am a generous deliverer I always aim to give you more than your package promises, because that's who I am. But I also have a standard. And that standard means every image in your gallery has passed through my professional eye.

What Actually Happens to the Rejected Photos?

Here's what I want you to know: the photos I don't deliver are not secretly sitting somewhere waiting for you to find them. They exist, but they are not part of your story not because I decided that arbitrarily, but because something was technically or creatively wrong with them.

Your gallery on Pic-Time will be available to you for 30 to 90 days after delivery. During that window, please download your photos that's your responsibility and it's important. Once that gallery comes down, I free up the space on the platform.

But here is what makes me different: I keep your photos. Forever.

I mean that literally. I hold your images not just one copy, but two copies on separate hard drives.

Because your session is not just a transaction to me. It's your family. Your wedding day. Your brand new baby. And there is no price you can put on those memories.

I am only nine months into my professional photography journey, and already I know this about myself: these photos matter. To me and to you. And I will always treat them that way.

Can I Have the Rejected or Unedited Photos?

I get it! The curiosity is natural. You might be thinking, 'Even the bad ones! I want them all!'

But my honest answer is no, and I say that with the warmest intentions.

The rejected photos were rejected for a reason. Blinking eyes, slightly off settings, a duplicate of a better frame these are not images I would be proud to hand over, and more importantly, they're not images that show you in your best light.

You hired me because you've seen my work and you trust my eye. Handing over every raw, unedited, imperfect file would be the opposite of that trust.

Photography involves hours of unseen work the shooting, the culling, the editing.

My packages reflect the number of images I deliver at that price point, which I've set fairly. If you'd love more images beyond what's included, I do offer the option to purchase additional edited photos from your session. That way, you get more of the good stuff not the rejects.

This is also clearly covered in my contract, so you'll always know exactly what to expect.

The Bottom Line: Trust Is Everything

When you book me, you're not just paying for photos. You're trusting me my judgement, my eye, my process. I take that seriously.

Culling is a skill. It's not laziness, it's not me hiding things, and it's definitely not me rushing through your memories. It's me doing the unseen work that ensures every image in your gallery is something you'll want to frame, share, and look back on for decades.

You will always get the best of what I captured. And I will always keep your memories safe long after your gallery link has expired.

That's my promise to you.
