How much Family Photoshoot Cost: Why It’s Worth Every Penny (Mums, You Matter Too)

Updated: Dec 26, 2025

When families ask about photoshoot cost, they often think they’re paying for photos.

But family photography isn’t about files sitting on your phone.

It’s an investment in lasting family memories, especially for mums.

Why Professional Family Photography Is an Investment

Most families have plenty of photos of their children, and often of dads too. But mums? They’re usually missing.

Time and time again, I hear from mums: “I don’t have any photos of me and my children.” They’re always behind the camera, waiting for a partner or family member to capture the moment. It rarely happens!

As a professional family photographer, my goal is to put mums back in the frame. I encourage both parents to be present, ensuring that family memories are captured fully. These are images your children will treasure for a lifetime, proving you were there, present, and involved.

What Families Don’t See Behind the Scenes

A family photoshoot might last an hour, but most of the work happens before and after:

  • Planning and communication

  • Traveling to your location

  • Admin and coordination

  • Detailed, hands-on editing

Editing a one-hour session can take three hours or more, done meticulously by hand and not with AI. Every image is treated with care, making sure your memories are preserved beautifully.

Mini Sessions vs Full Sessions

I offer both mini sessions and full family sessions to suit different needs.

  • Mini sessions (20–30 minutes) are perfect for milestones, cake smashes, or busy families. They’re lower in price and include fewer photos.

  • Full sessions (around an hour) allow us to slow down and capture genuine connection, Laughs, cuddles, and the little moments that make your family unique.

Extended family? Invite them! It helps spread the cost and creates images with everyone you love, adding even more value to your investment.

The True Cost of Underpricing

Early in my career, I underpriced my family sessions to build my portfolio. But low prices often attracted clients who didn’t value professional family photography, leading to stress and burnout.

A one-hour shoot can mean three more hours of editing at home. That’s time away from my own family to make sure your photos are beautiful. Pricing reflects the care, experience, and intentionality that go into creating lasting family memories.

What You’re Really Paying For

when you Book a family photographer, You might think your paying for files.

You’re not.

You’re paying for:

  • An hour of uninterrupted connection with your children

  • Being fully present, away from phones and distractions

  • Laughing, playing, and making memories together

  • Mums finally being seen in the photos

Mums, you are in the frame. You are being heard.

It’s an experience you will never forget, because you chose to step away from social media, work, and life’s noise to be fully there with your children.

Who is this blog for

This post is for families who understand that family photography is more than just a session. It’s an investment in lasting family memories. It’s for parents who value professional family photography that captures genuine connection, love, and presence and not just posed images.

It’s especially for mums who are often missing from family photos. You spend so much time behind the camera documenting your children, but rarely appear in the story yourself. If you want to finally be seen in your family memories, this post is for you.

This is for families who value:

  • Connection over perfection: Capturing authentic relationships instead of forced poses.

  • Presence over distractions: An hour of uninterrupted play, away from phones, work, and daily chaos.

  • Trust and care: Working with a professional family photographer who prioritizes both the quality of your images and the experience of your family.
